Ice is civilization! - Allie Fox

After the last few tornados and storms here in Ontario and living through days without power I realized that the one thing people needed and could not find was Ice.

People who had generators to keep their refrigerators or freezers going could not find gas since all the gas stations were also closed.

So how do you make Ice without power ?

With the Jackery 240, 100 watt solar panel and a 12 Volt / DC freezer.

If there’s no sun you can always charge your Jackery with a dynamo… maybe one hooked up to your bike.

The 12-volt freezer is cool. We have a mudroom in our house and that's a nice option to keep food frozen if the power ever goes out in the winter, but in summer when you can't turn on the AC or make ice or anything, it's brutal. It's being reported now that hundreds of people in B.C. died last summer during that heatwave where it got to 40-45 C in parts of the Okanagan.

Yeah. I will eventually upgrade to the Jackery 2,000 that can run AC from a few Solar panels. Or maybe we just head underground for the summer ? The wind storms are getting brutal out East (Ontario) ….. the Hydro poles are snapping like twigs. The Grid goes down for days … especially when you live way outside the City. Some people have been without power now for 2 weeks. Eventually we will all be living off the grid.

The West gets forest fires and we get Flooding, Tornadoes, and Hurricane force winds every spring and summer. I’m not sure what’s worse. It’s all bad.

Last summer we had flooding and also a crazy unprecedented heatwave. It definitely smelled of HAARP, and was not normal. Plus there were forest fires popping up all over the place, looking like they were started by planes if you saw in real time, blamed on non-existent lightening being reported on the weather station every day. I'm sorry to hear about the storms back East. I'm surprised I'm not hearing more about it on the news. A heatwave like last-year's plus a power outage could be very deadly... :(

Now that I can make ice from fire I’m not worried about any heat waves or power outages.

Hey that's so cool. I went through a similar situation although the context was different. I live in Venezuela and about 4 years ago we had an event where we spent almost 4 continuous days without electricity. There you realize how important it is to have a backup generator and some ice to preserve food. In fact, on that occasion, a bag of ice that cost US$1 cost US$15, which was crazy.

Yes. When the Grid goes down Ice will be like Gold. You need to know how to make Ice.
