When Jesus was walking with His new friends following His resurrection, He highlighted to them all that Moses and the prophets had to say about Jesus Christ. Jesus accepted the Scriptures in their entirety. In addition to being a labor of study, he was assisting these searchers in their search for and education about their Savior through Scripture. In a similar vein, Jesus stressed the value of teaching and following the Bible, which is greatness in God's Kingdom, during His Sermon on the Mount. For us today, when we are tempted to choose to disregard any truth rather than alter our conduct, Jesus' great regard for God's Word is a helpful word.
Old Testament textual teachings were authoritatively and obediently imparted by Jesus. An submissive heart must be formed by adequate instruction in the Old Testament, which is definitive. Scripture should be revered in the highest degree since it contains all of the words of Jesus Christ, the Word become flesh.
What makes this significant? Several causes immediately spring to mind: 1) We can approach the entire Bible in the same reverent and obedient manner as Jesus did; 2) We can study and concentrate on God's Word with an eye toward a deeper and more intimate knowledge and love of the Lord Jesus Christ via the power of the Holy Spirit. Learning and adhering to the entire Bible is a requirement of submission to God via His Word.
Like Jesus, we resist temptation by quoting the Bible to vanquish the adversary. A faith rooted in the tried-and-true principles of Scripture does not flex to fit whatever new trend the culture adopts. Only in environments where justice and deference to God's Word are genuine can genuine mercy and love flourish. The whole purpose of the Bible is to make us love and obey Jesus!
Engaging with God's Word on a regular basis is the first step in living obediently and with great reverence for all of Scripture. Every day set aside time to study and reflect on Scripture, letting it guide your decisions and ideas. Use what you have learned, whether it is to be kinder, to forgive others, or to have a deeper confidence in Jesus. Seeking to comprehend all of Scripture's guidance, not just the portions that are cozy, is another aspect of obedience. Seek the wisdom of your heavenly Father, surround yourself with sound instruction, and yield to the Spirit's leading into the truth. By living obediently, you show that you respect the Bible and let it mold your life in ways that will exalt God. See the Scriptures about Jesus.
