May 2nd is Brothers and Sisters Day. May seems to be a month for family. I grew up with five brothers and sometimes it was tough but we managed.
I tried to follow all the good things my older brother did and avoid the mistakes he made. I followed him delivering newspapers when I was ten. During the summer I followed him to the caddy shack to carry bags. I went into business together doing landscape work when I was 16. That business went on, but I went on to college. I wasn't following my brother. He went on to be a corporate executive. I went from a nursing home worker to a lab manager in a research center to a total turn around as teacher in a foreign country.
My older brother always has ideas, a strict work ethic and authority to carry out his ideas. I was given creativity, sensitivity and patience. My younger brothers were given everything. There was such a gap in age it was like they were my nephews. The turned out okay in the end. The youngest traveled the world over and over and I miss him.
I'm really thankful that I could grow up with these brothers that helped me understand about myself and face challenges that were coming in life.
I want to share a couple songs that make me think about my brothers:
Elton John - Daniel
(The song explains everything)
Three Dog Night - Joy to the World
(An inside joke)
Sister Sledge - We are Family
(I never had a sister)
Beastie Boy -Paul Revere
(The song my brother played too much)
