Strikes have been going on for the last few days in different parts of the country, especially in Delhi. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday spoke to Delhi farmers on the phone and assured them of her support.
He sent the party's Rajya Sabha Parliament to Haryana with the message of staying by the side of the agitating farmers. Farmers in all parts of the Singhu border in the Haryana-Delhi state have been protesting for the repeal of the new agriculture law enacted by the central government.
Demonstrations are going on regularly in different places with the tractors. The Chief Minister's state MP stays there for about four hours on Fridays and the Chief Minister speaks to Delhi farmers four times through his phone.
He also spoke to the leaders of farmers' organizations in Haryana and Punjab more than once and the leaders informed him that their only demand was to repeal the agricultural law and they thanked the Chief Minister for being by their side.
In the wake of this incident, the Chief Minister further said that in 2006 I also went on a 28-day hunger strike in Kolkata demanding the forcible snatching of agricultural land.
He also said that he fully supported the movement started by the farmers to demand the repeal of the strict agricultural laws of the Center. This agricultural law bill has been passed without any discussion with the farmers.
After the Chief Minister spoke on the agrarian movement on Friday, he tweeted about the issue and reminded his party leaders and workers of the history of the Chief Minister's long struggle.
Referring to the livelihood of the farmers, the Chief Minister said that the government should withdraw this new agricultural law bill, and if it is not, we will all be forced to take part in the movement across the state and the country.
