This article points out once case where bias caused millions of deaths. The banning of DDT. I'm sure exposure to lots of DDT probably isn't good for you. However, Malaria killed millions in Africa that didn't have to die, in large part because of the ban.
In the case of climate change, biases are huge on both sides but the risks come not only from doing nothing but doing something without carefully considering the effects, both long and short-term, of what you are doing. Even economic effects can have profound life and death implications. Skepticism is needed not only in terms of the current predictions, but especially in terms of any proposed solutions.
