Venezuela proves that democratic socialism can lead to socialist totalitarianism if it holds onto power for long enough—and that the terrible long-term economic results of socialism will only be corrected democratically by voters who doubt socialism.
Venezuela is an excellent example of the end result of socialism, democratic or otherwise. Some argue that this result is not inevitable and point to other South American countries as examples. The above linked article was written 4 years ago. Since that time, the Venezuelan bolivar has fallen 100.00% against the dollar. It can't literally fall 100% without being worth 0 but you have to go out beyond two decimal places to discern.
