First, they came for the bags. Then, they came for the straws, but perhaps instead of looking for other common products to ban, we should look at what these regulations actually do.

It's not that taking care of the environment isn't important. It's just that the knee-jerk virtue-signaling types of legislation that we get don't actually accomplish that. Plastic bag bans are a great example. Many people reuse plastic grocery bags as garbage bags and now they buy plastic bags with even more plastic in them instead. Reusable bags can have a greater environmental impact than plastic bags because they often don't survive enough reuses to make the extra production effort and materials worthwhile. The list goes on.
