As a former refugee from communism, a New Yorker, and someone intensely appreciative of the producers who make our world possible, my aim is to operate a small business to create natural cosmetics. But the Green New Deal would tell you I'm evil and shouldn't be given the same free access to the market to compete.
Can't we just eliminate subsidies for everything? Whether it is for fossil fuels or for solar panels or whatever, the government should not be subsidizing things. A punitive tax on productive sectors of the economy to help pay for sectors that can't survive on their own can only end in disaster. The larger the scale, the bigger the disaster. The idea that the government can centrally plan the economy is ludicrous, as has been proven many times.
Fortunately, The Green New Deal failed miserably in the Senate at the time but the fact that it got that far is terrifying. If people aren't carefully paying attention to the legislation that gets passed in the future, I have no doubt that many features of The Green New Deal will still make it into law over the years.
