Not only do unions deny others’ freedom of association, they straightjacket their own members’ most essential guarantee of freedom of association and have made it all but impossible to undo the abuse.

Unions claim to be defenders of freedom of association. Or at least they once did. Now they represent quite the opposite. Freedom of association does not apply only if you join a union. Nor is joining a union a prerequisite to have that freedom. Nor does freedom of association mean that employers must hire union workers. Yet unions today support these and other anti-freedom positions and seek to use government coercion to enforce them.
