The Times of India has reported that Telegram is being investigated in India following the high-profile arrest of co-founder Pavel Durov in France on August 24.

The investigation, led by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY), is examining the messaging platform for potential involvement in gambling, extortion, and other illegal activities. If the investigation yields unfavorable results, there could be a potential ban on Telegram in India, which has approximately 104 million users and boasts the largest Telegram user base in the world.

Conflicting reports have emerged from users in India, with many claiming on the social media platform X that they are unable to access the Telegram wallet, which now shows an "unsupported region" message.
