Under stand has been misused by alleged authorities, it equates to exactly that, maritime law, if you agree, you stand under their authority, when any authority figure says that to me, I say "I stand under none" 👍

I tell them I stand for the flag, and kneel for the cross. They don't like me much, because I don't need them! They also don't like to be reminded that they are my employee; they work For me, but they do Not rule over me.
