Kushtia upazila farmer Milan Bhai has discovered a new variety of rice with his intelligence. Seeing the yield of this paddy has created a stir in the village. This beautiful paddy yields three to four times more per bigha than other prices.
Farmer Milan Hossain of Kushtia's Mirpur upazila created a stir in the area by growing one crop on just one bigha of land and selling paddy for five lakh rupees. As this high-yielding new variety of rice was invented, he named the rice after his daughter "Fatema" rice. Which is now in the mouth of the farmers of Mirpur. Many people come from far away to collect this rice seed. Also, the agriculture department has collected this rice and sent it for research.
Milan Hossain is a resident of Chak village of Sadarpur Union of Mirpur Upazila in Kushtia. He is a grocer by profession. Also he has great interest in modern agriculture. He showed this success by inventing new rice instead of traditional agriculture. I see that other farmers in the area are now showing interest in cultivating this new variety of rice.
Farmer Milan Hossain said, three years ago I cultivated Bri-51 variety of paddy. It was unusual to see a bunch of rice plants in my paddy field at that time. The trees are quite strong, tall and thick compared to other trees. I keep the plants with other paddy instead of uprooting them. Later I saw a lot of rice at the top of that rice plant. I cut the paddy of that bunch separately and kept it.
Later, we separated those paddies and planted them in a small area. The next year, I collected the seeds from that paddy and again cultivated this paddy in 2 bigha land. Mentioning the characteristics of this rice variety, he said, the cultivation method of this rice is similar to other rice. This rice can be cultivated in all three seasons: Aush, Aman and Boro. Plant height is bigger than other rice. The age of the tree is 100-110 days.
The trees are strong and do not fall. And one grain of rice produces 700 to 750 grains. Which is 6 times compared to normal rice. As a result, its production is also very high. Attacks of diseases and insects are relatively less. Apart from this, the rice is thin and the rice is also very delicious to eat. About the naming of the rice, he said, since this rice has no name, I have named this rice as Fatima rice after the name of my daughter.
Milan Hossain also said, this Boro season, I got 43 maunds of paddy in one bigha of land. Since no one has cultivated this rice before. So the farmers of the surrounding area are coming and buying this paddy as seed. So far I have sold paddy for 300 taka per kg. Which I sold for more than 5 lakh rupees.
He also said, I want the government to collect this rice and improve it and reach it to the farmers. Besides, I advise the farmers in the area to cultivate this rice. I am happy that everyone will cultivate rice in the name of my daughter. Amirul Islam, a farmer of the same area, said that compared to all the rice we cultivate, this rice yields three times more. Its hay is also an excellent feed for cattle. We want the government to expand this rice cultivation.
Another farmer, Sirajul Islam, said, I heard that the land of farmer Milon has produced very good rice. I came to see this paddy after hearing about the people of the area. Very nice to come. I have taken seeds for this rice cultivation in the future. Farmer Shaukat Ali said, I have planted hybrid rice on two bigha land. But I have two problems that happened. Milon's "Fatema" paddy is more than that. In the future I will cultivate this paddy because its yield is very high.
Assistant Agriculture Officer Naeem Hossain said that usually there are 150-160 grains in each grain of rice. But each grain of rice developed by Krishak Milon has 700-750 grains. The yield of paddy can be 40-50 maunds per bigha. According to Upazila Agriculture Office sources, hybrid rice has been cultivated in 1 thousand 650 hectares of land and high yielding (Ufshi) varieties in 7 thousand 780 hectares of land during Boro season this year. The average yield per hectare was hybrid 7.8 metric tons and Ufshi 5.8 metric tons per hectare.
Mirpur Upazila Agriculture Officer Ramesh Chandra Ghosh said that in his efforts, farmer Milon Hossain has collected some rice from the Bidhan-1 varieties and invented new varieties. We are encouraging and training the farmers in modern rice cultivation from the Department of Agriculture Extension. We have collected samples of rice invented by farmers. At the same time, I hope that the paddy will spread in the future.
