The extraordinary tropical fruit known as jackfruit, or Artocarpus heterophyllus, is indigenous to South and Southeast Asia. The fruit, which may weigh up to 80 pounds and has a spiky, green outer peel, is known for its immense size and is frequently referred to as the "world's largest tree fruit." When you open it, a treasure trove of fleshy, yellow or orange-colored pods with big seeds will be revealed. A popular meat alternative in vegan and vegetarian cuisines, jackfruit is praised for its adaptability as it can be relished both ripe, when it takes on a sweet and tropical flavour evocative of pineapple and banana, and unripe, when it develops a more neutral taste and meaty texture. This "miracle crop" is a favourite component in many cuisines and a major player in the world of plant-based eating since it is not only tasty but also nutritionally dense, providing a source of dietary fibre, vitamins, and minerals.

Unripe jackfruit is frequently used as a meat substitute in vegetarian and vegan meals because of its texture and capacity to absorb flavours. Ripe jackfruit has a sweet flavour and is eaten as a fruit. The jackfruit's seeds can be roasted or boiled and are also edible.
It may be used in a variety of meals, including curries, sandwiches, and salads, and is becoming more and more well-liked as a meat substitute in plant-based diets.
