Las hojas del árbol de caimito son muy características y permiten identificarlo fácilmente. El envés, el lado inferior de la hoja es de color cobrizo como el de nuestros antepasados indígenas, que poblaban esta región del centro norte de Venezuela, los caribes.
Su nombre científico es Chrysophyllum cainito y pertenece a la misma familia del Níspero y al igual que esta planta, el caimito produce unos frutos deliciosos y nutritivos que muy pocas personas conocen y consumen.
Me parece hermoso ese contraste entre los dos lados de la hoja. La naturaleza siempre tan sabia, lo doto de sustancias que lo protegen y son las que le dan ese color que lo distingue.
