Mammoth Rock is a large outcrop made of limestone and marble that overlooks the town of Mammoth. It was a relatively short hike, but it was lots of fun! The terrain was mostly snow covered and required using micro spikes to reduce slippage. We got up to the rock and I found some fun class 3 routes up to the top! The views from the top were awesome, but I didn't hangout long because there was a cold hard wing blowing and I didn't feel like getting blown off the side of the rock! lol. After climbing down we had a quick snack break on the backside of the rock before starting back. On the way back I got to have some more fun glissading a few of the steeper snow sections! And we also hiked passed a really interesting monument marking the site of Mammoth City an old mining town from the 1870's!
