Over the years, some albums have ebbed and flowed. Sometimes, one or two tracks stand out, while the rest fade away.
My top 3.
Animals (1977)
As the UK pogoed to punk, Pink Floyd spat out a different kind of menace. Holds up well in this age of abhumans.
The Dark Side of the Moon (1973)
Often sublime spaced out rock - with a hint of insanity. When the drugs do work.
Tricky...
Wish You Were Here (1975)
This sounds like the bridge between the previous two - simmering cynicism with sprinkles of regret.
What, no Wall? Nah, Ummagumma would probably beat it anyway. Only ever play one track from it...
But what a track!
They have so many great ones. My first exposure to them was Shine On You Crazy Diamond.
Their music is so unique, I never could classify them. I know they are considered rock, but I always felt that was to narrow to define both the art of their music coupled with the deep messages contained within.
My favorite song of theirs is Wish You Were Here. Such a poignant examination on the pieces of ourselves left behind. More even on how alone one can be in the thickest of crowds. Leaving one to wonder if those around them are ghosts, or worse, perhaps it is oneself that is the ghost in their world.
I rather dimly recall some hippie chick babysitting me and giving me the "headphone experience" with Dark Side. lmao. I was prob 10 or 11. I just recall the hippie and the arpeggios.
Lucky you ,.. i got paradise by the dashboard light , hurting my poor 10 year old brain .
But then again , at 3 years the nanny took me to the local youth center ,
where they smoked funny stuff and played Deep Purple , Jimi H. and Pink Floyd .
;-)
Awesome hits from the tracks
very cool, the smell of the music is very special
