Post-Punk Music & Talk! Of Gene Talks Tunes (Ep 101) 🎙️🎸 Talking The 1980 Album Closer From The Band Joy Division! & What Could Have Been If Not Cut Short!
On this Eighties Saturday I’m talking something from the very beginning of 1980! The 1980 album “Closer”album from the short lived band Joy Division. What I think is one of the most influential bands ever to the alternative rock scene that came later. Also talking what could have been as the lead singer and song writer Ian Curtis passed away in May 1980 exactly two months before the second album was released that year. I believe albums 3,4,5 would have been well I’ll try to put into words below.
(1980)
🎙️Eighties Saturday Evening Vlog 🎙️
- Intro (First 2 Minutes)
- Joy Division
- Ian Curtis
- Closer Album (1980)
- What We Missed Out On In Future
- The First Album
- Way Ahead Of There Time
I truly believe if Ian hasn’t died at 23 before even there second album was released we would have seen Joy Division become the biggest alternative rock band of the eighties. They are already amongst the most influential with just two records and a few singles. If they had gone on I believe they’d be even more influential. Ian likely wouldn’t have hit his writing prime until his late 20’s. Some would say there more legendary because of his passing young kinda like Kurt & Nirvana kinda thing but I believe otherwise. That said who knows! Hope you enjoyed!
Below I’ll share some tunes from the 1980 album “Closer”
Twenty Four Hours
Isolation
Atrocity Exhibition
Definitely check out the record!
It’s the kind of music you probably won’t get on first listen but give it a try.
Below are 3 more tunes from the earlier late seventies album (1979) & some singles released same year.
Disorder
Transmission
Love Will Tear Us Apart
Thanks for running in! 🎸
