Listening to some Robbie Robertson on my morning walk ….
Robbie Robertson is a Canadian singer-songwriter, guitarist, and film composer.
He is best known as the founding member and primary songwriter of the band The Band.
The Band was a Canadian-American rock group formed in Toronto, Ontario, in 1968, and active until 1999.
The Band was one of the most influential and successful rock bands of the 1960s and 1970s, known for their blend of rock, folk, and country music, as well as their distinctive and innovative songwriting.
Robertson was born in Toronto, Ontario, in 1943, and began his music career as a session musician in the early 1960s, playing with artists such as Ronnie Hawkins and Bob Dylan. He then joined The Band in 1968, and played an instrumental role in shaping the band's sound and songwriting, writing and co-writing many of the band's most famous songs such as "The Weight", "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" , "Up on Cripple Creek" and "I Shall Be Released".
As a songwriter, Robertson's lyrics were often poetic, literate and observational, with themes ranging from personal reflection to social and political issues. His guitar playing was also prominent, characterized by a fingerpicking style that drew from folk, rock and country music.
