It may sound a little crude but ratings from reviews across different sources play a huge part in selecting a new movie or series to watch for me.
Time is of the essence and sometimes we simply don't have enough spare time to give to the outright bad.
Of course, the risk is that one might miss out on a diamond in the rough but overall, I think reviews are very important for any type of video media.
