For a while now I have been walking in circles, thinking on what to do and how to come out of this feeling or should I say lack of motivation...but then again, maybe I am just lazy. During those times I took comfort in seeing movies/tv series, ranging from different genre and storyline, Movies are good company I must say. Although, recently I have come to prefer watching TV series over movies, I mean I never want the show to end especially with one I am so into.
Movies are more direct, they waste no much time as they have limited run time, while TV series on the other hand take it's time to develop. It gives you the opportunity to enjoy the story slowly and grow alongside the characters....like a journey. I know some people prefer movies as they would like to watch and get it over with, not held down by the suspense of having to wait till the next episode airs....which I totally understand, feel that way sometimes. Then again I guess, what is more important is "Is a good movie or TV series?"
My Charms
My movie charms are those things that makes a movie or series worth it for me. Those things I look forward to seeing on my screen and would keep me glued to it. Well, I do have a lot but these I can't tick off the list....
Originality(Uniqueness)
I remember reading the plot of the TV series "World of the married" months ago and I thought..."oh, it's about a woman whose husband cheated on her", that was the centre of it all. Which was a typical husband cheating on wife series you can see every where you turn but I was wowed by it's uniqueness. Yes, it was similar to the rest out there but they were able to create something refreshing and original in the series, captivating the minds of the viewers thereby earning it one of the highest ratings during the airing period and also awards.
Is it relatable?
I hear and read often times people say, "I could relate to the movie because of this or that", this I can attest to as countless number of times I need to be able to relate with what I am seeing. If the viewers can relate, they would follow the show or movie more easily.
Like one of my all time favourite TV series The Originals. At first I didn't really want to watch it, but as I progressed I became more engrossed in the show....moving from one episode to the other, I didn't want it to end. I was so into the series, I had a favourite character "Niklaus" who I came to love and understand, despite his wrong choices I still went on rooting for him.
Character development
I actually got to understand what this means when I started seeing TV series more frequently, a clear picture of how a character transforms as the show progresses is always so fascinating to me. One of my favourites that portrays this so well is The 100. A story about a number of youngsters dumped on earth as a punishment and a test. Then the question goes thus, "how do they survive on earth by themselves?" As the story unfolds, you see how they struggled past every obstacles as the race became a survival of the fittest and also, where they would have to face a formidable enemy.
The character growth was really remarkable. You see naive kids having to fend for themselves, having to make a choice between evil or the lesser evil. One character I find so interesting in this series is that of "Octavia". A young girl who has been hidden since she was born. She only wanted to be free, live her life like her age mates but destiny had something else planned. Octavia character grew from a girl who has always been protected by her brother to a force and a leader you don't want to mess with....good and bad.
Twist
I am a big fan of twist, I'd hate being able to predict how a movie or series would end. This is the reason I have become so picky when it comes to movies, I'd rather watch a TV series as they give more room to explore different ideas. An example of a king of twist is Penthouse. Okay, maybe they did too much on this one with lots of twist and turns but I was hooked.
With each episode there was a twist, which attracted a lot of viewers to its screen...if you give opportunity to Korean series you would understand what I mean.
I bet we all have our different movie charms, something that makes a movie/Tv series worth seeing for you. There are a couple of others, but I'd just leave these here.
