Phenomena is a 1985 film directed by Dario Argento and starring Jennifer Connelly, Daria Nicolodi and Donald Pleasence, whose plot resembles that of Suspiria, another film directed by Argento. Michele Soavi is the assistant director of this film.

In the United States it was released under the title Creepers.

A Danish tourist misses her bus in the Swiss mountains and is brutally murdered by a mysterious killer bound in chains in a desolate cabin. She is only the first in a long series of victims. Months later, Jennifer Corvino is sent by her father, actor Paul Corvino, to a Swiss boarding school for girls, the scene of mysterious crimes against very young girls. Her sleepwalking accidentally leads her to witness one of the murders and meet a chimpanzee, who leads her to entomologist John McGregor. Jennifer befriends him, also loves insects, and even knows how to communicate with them somehow.

A second sleepwalking episode leads Jennifer to meet a firefly, who makes her discover some gloves trapped in the branches of a hedge. Inside these gloves are fly larvae, which the professor identifies as larvae of the "sarcophagus fly", an insect capable of sensing the presence of corpses even at immense distances. The man explains to Jennifer that there is a real telepathy between insects and that the young woman has the possibility of being guided by the fly in search of the murderer, given the certain presence of corpses in their vicinity.

During the night, however, the killer arrives to kill the entomologist himself. Inga, the professor's monkey, witnesses the murder and goes into the night brandishing a knife. As Jennifer is now frowned upon at the university for all the oddities that worry her, she books a seat on a plane, but while waiting for the first available flight she will have to spend another night in Switzerland. Frau Brückner, the deputy director of the university itself, offers her hospitality for the night at her villa, where the woman beats and stuns her.

Meanwhile, Inspector Geiger arrives in search of Jennifer: Brückner locks all the rooms and closes all the windows of the house with an electronic device before welcoming the inspector. Once recovered, Jennifer hears the inspector's screams and manages to enter a tunnel.

Scared to death, Jennifer falls into a repulsive tank, containing skeletons, decomposing corpse remains and full of insect larvae. Geiger manages to partially remove the chains and beats Brückner to allow Jennifer to escape. The girl encounters Brückner's son, who suffers from Patau's syndrome, and escapes in a boat docked in the garage of the house. The creature tries to hit Jennifer, but the insects come to the girl's aid, until she falls into the water and dies.

Jennifer swims to shore, where Brückner tries to kill her, but suddenly Inga, the professor's chimpanzee, appears and avenges her master with a knife.

The Phenomena soundtrack was released in Italy on LP format in 1985 and on CD in 1987 by Cinevox Record and includes a total of 12 tracks, including music composed by:

The soundtrack, widely publicized on television, was a great success. Curiously in the LP version appears the song "Two Tribes" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood, totally absent in the film and CD version.

Phenomena es una película de 1985 dirigida por Dario Argento y protagonizada por Jennifer Connelly, Daria Nicolodi y Donald Pleasence, cuya trama se asemeja a la de Suspiria, otra película dirigida por Argento. Michele Soavi es la asistente de dirección de esta película.

En Estados Unidos se estrenó con el título Creepers.

Una turista danesa pierde su autobús en las montañas suizas y es brutalmente asesinada por un misterioso asesino atado con cadenas en una cabaña desolada. Es sólo la primera de una larga serie de víctimas. Meses más tarde, Jennifer Corvino es enviada por su padre, el actor Paul Corvino, a un internado para niñas suizo, escenario de misteriosos crímenes contra niñas muy jóvenes.

Su sonambulismo la lleva accidentalmente a presenciar uno de los asesinatos y a conocer a un chimpancé, quien la lleva hasta el entomólogo John McGregor. Jennifer se hace amiga de él, también ama los insectos, e incluso sabe comunicarse con ellos de alguna manera.

Un segundo episodio de sonambulismo lleva a Jennifer a encontrarse con una luciérnaga, que le hace descubrir unos guantes atrapados en las ramas de un seto. En el interior de estos guantes se encuentran larvas de mosca, que el profesor identifica como larvas de la "mosca sarcófago", un insecto capaz de percibir la presencia de cadáveres incluso a inmensas distancias.

El hombre le explica a Jennifer que existe una verdadera telepatía entre los insectos y que la joven tiene la posibilidad de dejarse guiar por la mosca en busca del asesino, ante la cierta presencia de cadáveres en sus proximidades.

Durante la noche, sin embargo, llega el asesino para matar él mismo al entomólogo. Inga, el mono del profesor, presencia el asesinato y se adentra en la noche blandiendo una navaja. Como Jennifer ahora está mal vista en la universidad por todas las rarezas que le preocupan, reserva un asiento en un avión, pero mientras espera el primer vuelo disponible tendrá que pasar otra noche en Suiza. Frau Brückner, la subdirectora de la propia universidad, le ofrece hospitalidad para pasar la noche en su villa, donde la mujer la golpea y la aturde.

Mientras tanto, llega el inspector Geiger en busca de Jennifer: Brückner cierra todas las habitaciones y cierra todas las ventanas de la casa con un dispositivo electrónico antes de darle la bienvenida al inspector. Una vez recuperada, Jennifer escucha los gritos del inspector y logra entrar en un túnel.

Muerta de miedo, Jennifer cae en un tanque repulsivo, que contiene esqueletos, restos de cadáveres en descomposición y lleno de larvas de insectos. Geiger logra quitar parcialmente las cadenas y golpea a Brückner para permitir que Jennifer escape. La niña se topa con el hijo de Brückner, que sufre el síndrome de Patau, y se escapa en un barco atracado en el garaje de la casa. La criatura intenta golpear a Jennifer, pero los insectos acuden en ayuda de la niña, hasta que cae al agua y muere.

Jennifer nada hasta la orilla, donde Brückner intenta matarla, pero de repente aparece Inga, la chimpancé del profesor, y venga a su amo a golpes de navaja.

La banda sonora de Phenomena fue lanzada en Italia en formato LP en 1985 y en CD en 1987 por Cinevox Record e incluye un total de 12 pistas, incluida música compuesta por:
