Sons Of Anarchy

They called it a Shakespearean tale in 7 acts, yet judging by the title, the setting and the protagonists that would have been the most remote definition that would have come to mind. Sons of Anarchy has become cult without the pretense of wanting to be. A constant and inexorable crescendo that has seen Kurt Sutter's TV series become a small global phenomenon as time goes on. Airing on FX for 7 seasons, the show took us inside small bands of riders who rode their Harleys made us live moments of very high television. A drama of the heavy ones, built very well and with unforgettable characters. The absolute but not unique protagonist, Jackson "Jax" Teller played by a very young Charlie Hunnam and launched towards a wonderful career. SAMCRO is the band of motorcyclists who only apparently are gathered under the same patch for pure motoring passion. What unites them is a real blood pact that will bind them for life as brothers and sisters. The gang will be an extended core with a summit and a real organization headed by a president and many members of congress to decide on everything about the crew. A crew that will be stained with all kinds of crimes and crimes, from arms sales to drugs, from murder to kidnapping and so on. A crescendo made of unexpected betrayals, games of power and brotherhood that will make every event and machination more and more dramatic. An endless escalation that will not stop at the only violent and criminal component. At stake are the lives, loves and dreams of Jax, a dreamer boy who, however ruthless, will always aim to live a clean life and out of the arms and drug trade. Not a classic life as a good boy but a life of non-criminal, lived with love towards his Tara and his children and with respect and passion towards his brothers. But when you play dirty the collateral damage is around the corner. And so event after event Jax finds himself in a spiral of endless violence that he will never escape. Inescapable. This is the key word of a superb series where fate seems to be already written for everyone. Whatever dream you have, whatever hope you bring in, it won't be enough. In such a ruthless world you'll have to watch your back and your loved ones, and that's not enough.

Fate is mocking and despite his efforts he will continue on his path, dragging with him every project of a different life. Kurt Sutter's show is relentless, he doesn't take prisoners, he doesn't discount anyone. No one is safe, the devil is in the details and our dark passenger will often prevail over good intentions. Sons of Anarchy also created a spinoff, Mayans M.C., recently renewed for a third season. Very similar to the mother series and for this less disruptive but still effective. If you want to give yourself a series to put in your top 10 then don't wait, Sons of Anarchy is for you.
