TV serial review: Netflix - Squid Game

in movie •  3 years ago

Squid Game is not a movie, but a TV miniseries. When I first heard about it, I thought it was some nonsense because I had heard about it on TikTok, so it can not be that serious.
They said the movie was disturbing, but what I find disturbing is a 47-year-old adult acting like a ten-year-old unruly brat and being financially supported by his aging mother...

To make matters worse, he also has a daughter, owes money to a couple of mobsters, and bets on horses. This is pure social horror.
They did not have to add the bloodshed, it's already hell.

Series Directed and written by : Hwang Dong-hyuk
Stars: Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Greg Chun

Story line is a bit out of the touch with the reality, so the main villain has to be mentally disturbed to the point of no return, because who else would actively seek out nearly 500 absolute life losers to populate a twisted game on a remote volcanic island.

There are no big special effects, which I appreciate in this case. You do not really need CGI to make an excellent film.
What I find completely confusing is that a people go to this slaughterhouse several times to play several other, most likely deadly games after seeing a complete slaughter from hell the first time.

I just started watching this TV serial and I want to enjoy it, so no spoilers for me. Anyway, you can see the reviews and they are pretty good. I also find the story intriguing.
