No Hard Feelings - The dominance of characters over players

in movie •  last year

Jennifer Lawrence, who made Katniss Everdeen, the character she portrayed in The Hunger Games movie series, feel like a family member and lit the fire of the righteous rebellion against the system, destroyed the reputation she built over time in the movie No Hard Feelings. The character of Maddie, who slept with every man she came across, did not suit Jennifer Lawrence at all!

The last time I had such an impression was Keanu Reeves as Neo and I didn't like any of his performances after Neo. Keanu Reeves, whom I labeled with the sci-fi label, didn't suit other labels, especially love, and I could only associate him with sci-fi movies because of the prejudice I couldn't help but create in myself.

Jennifer Lawrence, with her strong stage performance and natural sympathetic appearance, matched the character of Katniss Everdeen, the rebellious girl who lit the fire of rebellion in The Hunger Games movie series, and gained my extra appreciation, just like Keanu Reeves with his character Neo.

With the story and the opening scenes of No Hard Feelings, I had a hard time reconciling the character of Maddie with Jennifer Lawrence. I didn't rule out the possibility that the criticism I made at the beginning and continue to make might be due to my own prejudice from the previous films (Hunger Games). Am I too prejudiced? I had to see the end of the movie to answer that.

Actually, I didn't have to wait for the end of the movie. After seeing Jennifer Lawrence fighting with three people in the beach scene and laughing out loud, I started to warm up to the character of Maddie and started to associate her with Jennifer Lawrence. I can testify that she knocked out all three people without having anything on her (a gun) because she really had nothing on because she was completely naked in that scene.

I couldn't imagine a naked Jennifer Lawrence with the character of Katniss Everdeen, but with the character of Maddie, it was a perfect match. I realized that the reason for this change in my opinion had less to do with the role and more to do with the genre of the movie. A character who adapts to the genre of the movie can break preconceived notions. Jennifer Lawrence did exactly that and with No Hard Feelings she created the funny and entertaining character of Maddie.

Facing economic difficulties and at risk of losing everything she has, Maddie makes a monetary deal with her parents to include the shy, introverted Percy (played by Andrew Barth Feldman), a child of a wealthy family, into the normal flow of life. This is the spark for the romantic comedy No Hard Feelings. Seeing Jennifer Lawrence in a different type of movie, with a different character, turned into a viewing pleasure that I found strange at first, and then I embraced it. I can guarantee that the movie will be fun for romantic comedy lovers. You will definitely laugh out loud in more than one scene and in the end you will realize that it was time well spent. I wish everyone who will watch the movie a good time. May your movie enjoyment never diminish!
