What Dreams May Come is a 1998 drama starring Cuba Gooding Junior that you need to watch.

Gooding Jr. Stars as the husband of a woman who has died and went to Hell. Gooding's love is so strong that he descends into Hell to save his condemned wife and ends up on a fantastic journey.

This movie is one you must see. It is gripping, and the imagery from Hell is haunting and will stay with you.

See it for free on YouTube or most streaming services. I recommend watching this with full attention.

Oh, that's right! Totally forgot about this one. Saw it in theatre, then never heard of it since. Should check it out again.

I remember seeing it in theaters as well. Came out when the Matrix and Eyes Wide Shut were there. 1998/99 was an amazing year for cinema.

It was hard to imagine how the 90s could have got any better, and then they did. I recall being thrilled in 99, hugely enjoying movies almost weekly. Felt like we had just seen years of back to back awesome films, and looking forward to 2000 it seemed there would be nothing but even better films from then on. Looking back, it was probably the best years (within my lifetime) for film, especially this kind of film.

Yes. 1997-2001 was a great era for films. So many genres benefitted from storytelling and character building. So many unique and thoughtful movies. Was watching Minority Report and this film and no comparison today. I grew up in Portland, and the music and film scene was incredible then. So was the beer and nature, but you know that as a Vancouver citizen.

Yeah that's a special part of North America for sure. If you can handle the gray and wet, it's perfect.
Minority Report is on my top 20, and one of the very few DVDs I own. It's like Matrix and V for Vendetta, gotta watch it again every few years.
Speaking of 97, my favourite movie of all time is from then - Fifth Element.
We were blessed that our main moviegoing years were also the best movies ever for films. I mean there were some great ones through history for sure, but the late 90s and early 00s were jam packed with the best of the best.

Yes. Fifth Element holds a special place in my heart. It's hard to replicate because it's an immersive sci fi film. It's so original and the characters are belovedly developed. The concepts are deep, and if they tried to remake it they could never do so today. It's almost like a throwback to the westerns of the 1950s that capture the yearning of humanity to survive and thrive. You left the theater in a daze.

Well said. Twas a masterpiece of late 90s film!
Seems like we should have a movie night sometime, watch some of each other's favourites we haven't seen yet.
