Navigating the Job Market: Tips for Finding Your Dream Career

in motivation •  2 years ago

There's a new job hunting world order out there. This post is about how to navigate this jungle. Finding the perfect job is challenging. There are millions of jobs available, and you don't know which ones are the best for you.

How do you sift through the noise and find the top jobs for you? The first step is to understand that it's possible to get two similar jobs with significantly different pay. You just need to look beyond traditional job listings.

In this article, I'll share three tactics for finding the right job while still being sure to make a profit.

I've used these tactics to get into and out of multiple industries - you won't find much of my previous work online, but you can see some of my earlier posts here.

The first trick is using LinkedIn to find jobs with specific titles, but I'll share more tips about that later.

The second strategy is to keep an eye out for niche opportunities that might not show up on the standard job boards.

The last trick involves starting with jobs you already know how to do, but shifting your skill set into something that's less common. It may take some extra effort to start over, but it's worth the money.

Step 1: Build A Strong Resume

The resume is your ticket to getting interviews. The resume is a very important part of your career search.

It must be tailored to the position you are applying for, but it should also be applicable to lots of different roles within your industry.

A strong resume is like your cover letter for the application. It doesn't need to be long or fancy, but it does need to be clear, easy to read, and organized.

My resume includes:

Heading for job #1: Experience in this field

Heading for job #2: Previous job experience

Current job: My current duties

Skills:

Heading for job #3: Some relevant skills

Previous job: Additional skills

Skills:

Heading for job #4: Other skills

What do I want out of the job?

Heading for job #5: What I expect from this job

Previous job: Additional skills

What do I want out of the job?

How would I describe myself?

This list should cover all the main points that are relevant to the role. You may have skills in your industry that aren't listed here, but I encourage you to be honest about what you really have. You don't need to spend hours crafting a perfect resume.

Once you've created a resume that covers everything that's important, save it somewhere accessible (such as Google Drive).

Step 2: Write Your Resume

Now it's time to put this resume together and start sending out applications.

The resume should be formatted with a heading for each job you're applying for and then additional bullet points under each section. The key is to keep the text short.
