Race against Time

As the saying goes Time is Precious, Indeed it is precious but running against time is also not the best thing to do. Do you think that you have to do lots and time is just not enough? Well, I do feel that in pockets, but then when I analyze I see that I am overburdened in that particular phase and hence that feeling keeps coming that Time is not enough, otherwise I am sorted with my time.

This thing came to my mind when I was talking to one of my colleagues who always keeps making this statement that time is not enough for me and I always have my plate overflowing with things to do. If you are also one of them then you should look at The Eisenhower Matrix. It simplifies this whole statement of Not enough time on hand to meet all my things to do.

When in such a situation, the best is to sort out the Important and the Non important tasks and then the Urgent and the Non-Urgent tasks. It goes without saying that the Important and the Urgent tasks are always the ones that should be taken up immediately and then the important and the not urgent ones will fall second in place. I would not even waste my energy to look at the non-important and non-urgent tasks, these ones can be completely avoided. What is the point in doing something which has no value?

Personally I believe that such situations can come in phases but if all the time a person feels that, then probably that person is not very organized, or that person has taken up more than required or that the person does not know where to draw boundaries and keeps taking up whatever is thrown, or it can also be a case of a over ambitious person who thinks I can be the jack of all. But any of these scenarios does not give a healthy environment. If it is regular, you cannot be in a healthy state of mind and will always feel drained out.

The person I mentioned who always feels this, has a lot of problems. First of all, I see that he is never in a peaceful state, he is always complaining, he keeps getting angry and annoyed on slightest of matters, and when I tell him that he needs to start delegating his work to reduce his burden, at the same time he feels no one is capable of doing his job. This is another issue where you think, no one else can do the job and hence you are the only one responsible for it.

Delegation of work in some situations is important, whether it is in office or in other areas of life. I personally also face this challenge in some areas of life. Especially when it comes to stuff like home cleaning. I feel that no one can do it the way I can and hence when I am on such activities, I feel overburdened in the given time. On one hand I do not delegate and on the other hand I feel that no one is helping me. This happens sometimes with all of us. I think if it's just sometimes it's manageable, but if it is all the time then it is surely going to make you a cranky person.

This problem can also be faced when one does not set realistic goals. Over stretched goals can be harmful. Balance of time is very important to balance our life. Having time for all areas of life keeps us healthy, time for work, time for family, time for entertainment, time for self, everything has its own priority, when we start tilting on anyone too much, we disturb the harmony of life.
