One can say meditation or just silence, whatever you want to say, but more important is practicing it. We get caught up in the activities of the day to day life and in all of that we forget to attend to our own self. Science proves that a daily 10 to 15 minutes meditation practice helps in brain growth and reduces stress and anxiety level. And why only wait for science to prove things. The benefits are very clearly visible so why not do what is good for us without anyone having to prove anything.
When we say silence it means not the silence of noise around, but the silence of the noise within.
Even when sitting idle doing nothing, our physical body is at rest but our mind is still at work. One after other thoughts keep coming to our mind. This is not called silence, this chaos is even more dangerous than the chaos outside, because we do not realize what our mind keeps cooking inside. Even if these are happy thoughts it does not solve the purpose. There's no neutrality. When any sort of emotions keeps triggering from our thoughts then that's not called the silence of the mind or state of meditation.
To explore the full potential of our own mind and self we have to go completely silent in a state of being neutral. Just 10 minutes a day to start which is good. Positive results will be seen if the practice continues for a longer time. Self-reflection is different than silence. Self-reflection is about analyzing our past behavioral patterns in a very non-judgmental way to understand how to improve on what's good what's not. Whereas silencing the mind is making the mind go blank of past and future and being in the present in the as is moment in a neutral state.
If we are not used to this even 5 minutes will look difficult, but once into the practice then you we enjoy doing it more often. Focused breathing is the best tool to aid it. Box breathing helps to achieve this state. It is visualizing a square in front and in that breathe, hold and exhale, all at the count of 4. It will not only improve the brain functioning but will also improve the lung capacity.
We have such beautiful gifts from nature, from life, but we so mindlessly go around conducting ourselves. We never pay attention on our breathing, on our thoughts. All the garb keeps going on in mind, toxic thoughts which leads to toxic behavior.
It is not only important to relax our body by sleeping but it is also important to relax our mind by daily meditating.
