Another supplement that you should stock in your pantry for winter is oregano oil. The two main active ingredients thymol and carvacrol have many health benefits, most notably right now are its gut altering, immune-boosting, infection-fighting properties, and its aid in weight loss. Always do your own research before starting a new supplement.
In a 2012 study, mice fed a high-fat diet were divided into two groups: one which received a carvacrol supplement and one which did not. Despite the high-fat diet, mice fed carvacrol showed significantly less weight gain, less visceral (belly) fat, lower plasma lipid (cholesterol) levels and inflammation than the mice not given carvacrol.
In a similar study, thymol treatment in obese mice showed significantly decreased (visceral) weight gain, free radicals, leptin, glucose and insulin levels as well as lipids: ALT, AST, LDH compared to obese mice without thymol treatment.
Metabolic syndrome is associated with insulin resistance, inflammation and infections. A 10-day trial of oregano oil treatment in patients with metabolic syndrome and a resulting infection showed oregano oil treatment fought Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Streptococcus aureus similarly to antibiotics and without causing gut dysbiosis.

It's expensive stuff! Maybe we can find a way to extract it in large amounts? Would be a good Summer project.
I have personally noticed the infection-fighting capability. And yes, it does seem to improve the gut biome or something. Every autoshaman (and anyone who appreciates safe powerful herbal remedies) should have some on hand!!
It's sure been doing me wonders this winter. I crave that spicy juice now when I get a cold haha.
