So this is the museum of witchcraft and Magic in Boscastle in Cornwall. Being in spirituality, of course I had to pay this museum visit. There’s some really interesting exhibits, particularly the curse section and the divination area with all the early tarot cards and scurrying tools. Everything about this place was so cool. I go into a lot of detail in my video, it took me pretty much the entire day to research and make it! For now I’ll leave you with some pics and the video from the day.
This is known as a scolds bridle and was used to silence women, not only did it actually silence them but it was a way to shame them.
This was the witches weighing chair where they would weigh suspected witches against the weight of their local Bible. It was thought that witches
needed to be light to ride a broom stick so if they weighed more than the local Bible they would be released, safe to say, this probably saved a hell of a lot of people of being executed.
This was a list of just some of the names of people that were put to death for being accused of witchcraft. There are 1000 people that were executed in the UK alone for being considered to be a witch.
This is the curse section which I found very interesting, seeing all the curses that had been put out from women having affairs, to someone cursing their bullying army leader. Take a look at the video for way more details on this as I like talking more than typing lol.
This tarot deck is hand painted over a set of playing cards and apparently it always moves by itself and the cards move and rotate!
This is old horny one of the museums oldest exhibits
And the super powerful hare!
This is the beautiful wooden Wheel of the Year, painted by Vivienne Shanley, who’s eight sections feature a picture illustrating a seasonal festival.
