50 Shades of Web: Madame Web (in Dolby) review (No Spoilers)
When I was younger, I used to play Magic The Gathering down at the local comic shop with friends in TX. I am your typical game nerd. They would have tables in the side room and it was made up of ALL MEN. Once in a blue moon, a girl would walk in the comic store and everyone would stop for a moment, get silent and watch.
As if they have never seen a girl in their territory before. You could hear some of the guys quietly chatter, "Dibs!" "Dibs!" "Dibs" low enough for the girl not to hear, before she walks out and the room erupts again with serious card playing.
Imagine if you will, if one day, all the guys showed up to the comic book store to pick up the latest Magic: The Gathering season only to find out Mattel bought the company and had Gavin Verhey design a whole Barbie series. Barbie is the NEW Magic!
All the guys start to complain, they ask the daytime manager about it and says he knew after reading about the change-over to Mattel in 'The Duelist.' They say they want to make Women the new focus and they have a whole new DEI agenda they want to roll out to ensure they get a new audience for their products.
A bunch of guys just quit, right then and there, a few others, check out the new Barbie decks and think they are super lame, one or two are still die hards and even think the new Characters are kinda tough and since you can blend them into your other decks, they will continue to play the game.
Years go by, and still there are a few guys in the side room of the comic book store playing Barbie Magic and having a good time, but about 90% of the other guys just left and found girlfriends or video games to play with. This is what happened when Disney bought Marvel and Sony bought into DEI and Blackrock.
This brings us to Madame Web, Madame Web is what happens when a company has no idea what they are doing or who they are even doing it for. This movie got a 13% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 56% audience score which I think is overly generous.
This movie is NOT made for comic book fans, this movie is NOT made for those who like comic book movies, this movie is made for NO ONE. If I were to take an educated guess, I would say CHAT GPT wrote the script and S.J. Clarkson should be fired from Sony. Another 80 million dollar disaster.
The film was all over the place, it felt rushed, every scene in the movie seemed totally unbelievable, the main character was the ONLY character we spent anytime getting to know, the three girls all had the same story, if you ask why we needed three teenage girls in the movie rather than one, I couldn't answer that, because they were all glued to the hip. I think it was a DEI thing. There is NO connection to Spider-man at all.
I give the movie a 4.4 out of 10.
