Hello!

Today I publish a post about my #lobook initiative. Here, I share my experience about a book, beginning from the buying and finishing with my personal review. You can read more about lobook, consulting my first Lobook post here on Blurt.

AND NOW, LET'S GO!

This new episode takes a cue from the Herbie Brennan's novel, published with the title The Purple Emperor (dated back to 2003 for the native version). The Italian version I read is La Guerra degli Elfi – Il nuovo re, first publication in Italy dates back to 2005 and curated by Angela Ragusa. In the image below, you can see a cover picture from which I removed a few parts, trying to avoid possible direct advertisings.

And below, some slices of the inner pages:

I purchased this book several years ago in a local bookstore and decided to reread the entire series it is part of in the last few months. Surfing the web, I found multiple editions with different prices, major for the hard-cover version and minor for the softcover one. The first price I found here in Italy is €11.50, and reaches €16.00 for the most expensive version. You can find different price on your homeplace or online, someone with various offers. Maybe there is even an ebook format in Italian or English. I don't know for other languages.

TURNING PAGES

The elves' world is in turmoil due to the arrival of the new king, a more difficult change than expected. The never-dormant intrigues awaken, thanks - above all - to the return of the deceased monarch. He seemed deceased, but now he is no longer. Has it ever been? The pages will have to provide this answer. What is certain is the beginning of a new adventure for Pyrgus, Henry, Aurora and viceroy Fogarty.

A new episode of the Brennan's saga, an episode that I appreciated a little less this time. The plot seemed a little dull at times, not very original compared to similar fantasy novels and the previous episode. On the other hand, the story takes place almost entirely in the world of elves, recalling new faces and others already encountered, all involved in a series of intrigues orchestrated in a way that I would define - without going out on a limb - "not so bad".
The style follows the previous episode, the writing is quite simple and stuffed with a pattern suitable for a parallel world technologically less saturated than ours, built instead around the oldest fantasy technology: magic.
My judgment is a complete acceptability, but I found it less original than the previous one. Those who love palace intrigues - perhaps - will prefer this second slice of the saga's history.

PERSONAL RATING

For my personal rating of the book, I usually use two votes: a GENERAL VOTE, based on a more objective approach to the text (where I consider for example the author's way of writing, the plot, any errors found, etc), and an INVOLVEMENT VOTE, based instead on the effect that reading had on me (if it attracted me, if it intrigued and tempted me, if it gave me useful information, etc.). Each of the two ratings is marked with a number of stars, from one to 5.

In the case of La Guerra degli Elfi – Il nuovo re, my personal response is:

GENERAL Vote: 3/5
INVOLVEMENT Vote: 3/5
