Hello!

Today I publish a post about my #lobook initiative. Here, I share my experience about a book, beginning from the buying and finishing with my personal review. You can read more about lobook, consulting my first Lobook post here on Blurt.

AND NOW, LET'S GO!

This new episode takes a cue from the Jean-Cristophe Grangé's novel, published with the title Le Serment des Limbes (dated back to 2007 for the native version). The Italian version I read is Il giuramento, first publication in Italy dates back to 2008 and curated by Doriana Comerlati. In the image below, you can see a cover picture from which I removed a few parts, trying to avoid possible direct advertisings. This version dates back to 2012.

And below, some slices of the inner pages:

I bought the book several months ago, in the paperback format. There are multiple editions with different prices, major for the hard-cover version and minor for the softcover one. The first price I found surfing the web here in Italy is €6,90, and reaches €12,00. You can find different price on your homeplace or online, someone with various offers. Maybe there is even an ebook format in Italian or English. I don't know for other languages.

TURNING PAGES

A man - an own dear friend - who attempts suicide. Possible? For him, the track isn't right: something else must be underneath. So he decides to start an investigation he carried out himself, despite the reluctant considerations of his colleagues. And his tenacity will prove him right, because something in the life of his friend Luc had remained unknown to many others, including him. Something that unites people like Luc, and Commander Mathieu Durey still has no idea about it. But he will soon have a clear one, and at his own expense.

Language full of sharp expressions, especially in some first-person point-of-view parts. The first person itself helps make the text more engaging. However, some changes in the person's point of view clash within the same chapters, I don't know if this is due to revision errors or intentionally following an idea. For the other part, the writing is correct, although sometimes not too fluid.

The plot struggled a lot to involve me in reading, especially in the first half of the text. Then a central piece takes over, a mysterious thread that enlivens the reading. From then on, I was able to maintain a greater interest. I must say that the detective story with a thousand leads thrown out there doesn't make me enthusiastic, because I have difficulty juggling between important information and other information that will be sensationally discarded, often without even having played a functional role. This is why I remain halfway in my evaluation of the novel: on the one hand I think it's not bad, on the other it still hasn't managed to excite me, except in spurts.

Pages: 600 about

Genre: THRILLER | CRIME | MISTERY (a little)

PERSONAL RATING

For my personal rating of the book, I usually use two votes: a GENERAL VOTE, based on a more objective approach to the text (where I consider for example the author's way of writing, the plot, any errors found, etc), and an INVOLVEMENT VOTE, based instead on the effect that reading had on me (if it attracted me, if it intrigued and tempted me, if it gave me useful information, etc.). Each of the two ratings is marked with a number of stars, from one to 5.

In the case of Il Giuramento, my personal response is:

GENERAL Vote: 3/5
INVOLVEMENT Vote: 3/5
