From one issue to another appears to be the recurring pattern in my life right now. Though not often directly, it does happen to the individuals I hold dear in my life. From me on the point of wasting five years to being starved, dropped out, and having difficulties with my parents all the time. It simply seems never-ending. However, I rarely share my hardships with others; instead, I focus on the positive aspects of my life.

I still cling to the idea that being free means having no demands, no dependencies, and no expectations. Ayn Rand's definition, which I also think applies. That sticks, and I make it a point to never ask for assistance so that I don't feel obligated to anyone. It has essentially been give rather than take thus far. I struggle to be selfish because I am a little too altruistic. I truly always want the people I love and care about to prosper and be content on their own terms.

Having been around issues all the time, I start to wonder: Why do nice people have awful things happen to them?

That seems like a reasonable query in a desperate situation. There are numerous perspectives on it, ranging from scientific to religious. As a skeptic, I lean toward the nontheistic viewpoint that holds that the universe is not grandly designed. Our actions and carelessness have contributed to our current issue in some way. Giving in to the notion that the cosmos has a grand design, in my opinion, is handing up accountability to the invisible. After this, we grow sluggish and reluctant to solve problems.

Strangely enough, there are some things that are hard to explain. It might have been straightforward, but the way the world works tends to muddle things. Today's psychology even addresses the question, "Why do bad things happen to bad people?," which serves to further muddie the waters.

After reading and thinking about it, I understood that everyone experiences awful things. Even those who are "evil" struggle on a daily basis within themselves. It gives me a new perspective and reinforces what I've learned, which is that suffering is a part of life and that it's our responsibility to find meaning in it.
