One of the biggest productivity killers, especially for writers, is procrastination. In this post, I share a few tips on how to overcome this habit.
STEP 1: Focus on One Task at a Time
Many people say that they struggle with procrastination because they think about their entire goal and how they'll spend the entire day.
This strategy doesn't work because focusing your mind on one task at a time helps you ignore the urge to look back and start another one.
STEP 2: Stop Multi-Tasking
It's easy to multi-task when you've been interrupted and feel like you need to respond to something right now. Unfortunately, this isn't productive in the long run because you risk losing focus and drifting off in a new direction.
Instead, take a step back and re-focus on what you were going to do.
STEP 3: Start Small
It's tempting to dive headfirst into your goal and spend the next hours writing or editing, but starting small works better. Instead of starting with a full document or project, start with a blog post.
This is a good place to practice your communication skills and build trust by building trust. People don't expect perfection from a beginner, so getting started gives you a clear advantage when it comes to overcoming procrastination.
