Why are you here? Why were you sent here? Where are you meant to be?
It doesn't matter what religion you're following or if you believe in god, the meaning of life is a question all of us must answer.
But how do you find it? Many people think of the meaning of life as the afterlife; a state of peace, happiness, and contentment after death. But many spiritual seekers know there is more to the meaning of life than that. They see the afterlife as merely the reward after completing the path of life, while those who have discovered their purpose see it as the entire path from the beginning.
Discovering one's purpose allows them to find peace, happiness, and contentment during life and the afterlife. The purpose of life has two parts: first, why we were born; second, where we're meant to be.
So how do you discover your purpose? The first step is to define what it means. A purpose is defined as a reason for being. To discover your purpose, ask yourself:
Why am I here?
Why were you sent here?
Where are you meant to be?
The answers to these three questions will guide you to your true purpose.
As you try to discover your purpose, remember that every person on this planet was created with a unique purpose. Your purpose does not have to be similar to that of others, but it will be different.
STEP 1: Find Your Purpose
- Identify the goal of your life. What is your highest, most important goal? Your purpose might be helping people to grow spiritually or helping people to live more consciously. Your purpose might also be something you choose because it brings you great satisfaction, like running a charity or serving at a soup kitchen. Whatever your purpose, ask yourself these questions:
Why am I here?
Why were you sent here?
Where am I meant to be?
- What's your soul purpose? Your soul purpose is the driving force behind why you are here. Most people don't realize that they are always striving to fulfill their soul purpose. They may not even know what it is yet, but it's the reason you're here, and it guides your decisions and actions. For some, their soul purpose will be obvious from the moment they wake up. For others, it's only apparent after many years of experience.
Your soul purpose is why you came here on earth to fulfill. It may be something that started long ago when you were a child, but it grew stronger as you grew older.
- What's your heart purpose? Your heart purpose is the part of your soul purpose that you'll be doing most of the time. Most people never get beyond their soul purpose, but they often forget about their heart purpose. This is because they become so involved in the details of life that they miss out on the bigger picture. The heart purpose is where your higher purpose starts.
Ask yourself what it would mean to you to be happy?
To learn.
