One thing that is nearly guaranteed in life is change. And we all go through some sort of transition whether it’s big or small. The problem is that no one really prepares for life transitions. We just go along, day after day, and when the change happens, it catches us off guard.
It’s natural to feel anxious about change; however, we can take steps to ensure that it’s a smooth transition. There are three things that we need to consider: preparing ourselves, taking action now and having faith.
- Preparation
The first step is to prepare ourselves for the change by making sure that we are ready emotionally. This means that we must take time to acknowledge how we feel about the change. We need to figure out what needs to be done before, during and after the change so that we don’t experience any stress or anxiety while we go through the change.
- Taking Action
As the change approaches, it’s important to take action. It’s easy to procrastinate, but once the change comes, we realize how much has been put on hold.
There are two strategies that we need to focus on when we take action: finding balance and planning for the future. Find balance in the now by setting aside some time for your new hobby, making an effort to become more physically fit or learning a new skill that will help you feel more in control of your life. Plan for the future by creating goals and planning for your next career move.
- Having Faith
We also need to have faith in ourselves and in our decisions. As the saying goes, “Don’t let the fear of failure stop you from trying.” If we don’t try, we never know what will happen. It can be scary to face what is different, but if we make changes and live with them for long enough, they become second nature.
If you are going through a big change, make sure to spend time planning for it. It can help to write down some goals to keep you motivated and positive during the transition.
Faith is the key.
