Getting stuck is a frustrating thing and often comes from our own lack of knowledge. Many times it's just a lack of clarity about how to move forward. The goal is to break the cycle of frustration by working with you to identify the root cause of your stuckness so that you can take steps to move beyond it.
So, why are we here talking about being stuck and what does it mean?
It means that you are moving in the wrong direction, not necessarily physically, but mentally. You keep trying the same thing over and over again but still getting the same result. You are frustrated and you need to take some time out to think things through and find the root cause of the issue.
To clarify, let's use a car analogy. If you have been driving your car along the same road every day and you don't know where you need to go, you end up getting stuck. You have to stop, find the cause of your stuckness, and then make a change. This change may mean changing which road you take to go there or even switching directions completely. It may be something as simple as taking the back roads instead.
Being stuck in this sense is the difference between going somewhere and getting nowhere. It is when you've been on the same path over and over again and you are not making any progress. And when you can see that, it is time to break away from that path. There is no point driving on a dead end street or following the same route if you know it will just keep you stuck.
What does this have to do with being stuck as a writer?
Well, if you are not writing what you want to write and are just repeating the same old routine because you have no idea how to move forward, that is a sure-fire recipe for getting stuck.
It can become very easy to fall into a rut. We all do it to some extent, but if you are consistently sticking with the same strategy you will keep getting the same results. This becomes a form of complacency.
When this happens you become comfortable with mediocrity. So, instead of trying harder and harder to get results, you end up staying with what is comfortable. And when that isn't good enough, you stop, try another path, and repeat the cycle again.
I believe that most people are creative and intelligent. Unfortunately, most people choose to limit themselves because they lack self confidence and believe they are not good enough.
And they are stuck.
What does that mean for you?
Think about what you are currently doing. How much effort is it taking you to create the content you produce. In other words, how productive are you?
In order to really start producing valuable content, you must spend more time developing your craft. It is the only way you will be able to produce what you want.
Yes. I am stuck
