For a long time, I was talking to Harith about observing a Hindu Temple. There are only two-three Hindu Temples in Galle town. As we had no initial experience or knowledge of their rituals first we did not plan any visits to temples.
But once I had checked about a Kovil that situated center of Galle town but never got chance to visit. Last Saturday we had enough time remaining to visit this temple.
Sri Meenachi Sundareshwarar Temple is located next to Galle Town Hall. It is very easy to reach and easy to see from the road.
I couldn't find any other information on the internet regarding this temple. It seems there is a new temple built around an old temple. According to sources found, the old temple had built around 1877.
I was very clued less on what I am seen. Photos were not allowed inside the main temple. We removed our shoes before entering and in the first place there were powders to put 'tilak' (the dot on the forehead). The time was about 11.30 am and there was a pooja started. The main door is faced to the main temple pooja room where I guess all pooja items and statues are placed. We can walk around the central room. The surrounding building had beams decorated with carvings.
Beams and Carvings
Actually, there are only two photos I took inside the temple even though it's prohibited. I can convert the feeling inside this temple. It was really an amazing artistic building that had tons of carvings.
It was very cold inside due to the stone floor. I wish I could have the knowledge about what I was looking at.
There was a pooja and we tried to imitate other people who joined to pooja. There were about three-four families there with fruit baskets for pooja. Not all of them were Tamil. Sinhala people were also there.
It was a nice experience even though we were clueless.

Yeah. It looks so artistic. Here in my country, we don't have this kind of buildings. We have mud buildings
This is also my first experience because I am a Buddhist. But I really like to see other religious activities also.
Temple is beautiful. I'll add to wish-list. Thank you for sharing.
Yes. It was a great place to visit.
