Even though the first day ended with a cold, rainy night, the morning of the second day dawned with sunshine and warmth. After having a warm cup of tea, we got ready to welcome the exciting experiences planned for the day.
We went to the ground floor of the Wind Castle Hotel, and that's where we truly appreciated its beauty.
We enjoyed their delicious English breakfast and quickly stepped outside to take a few photos. True to its name, the wind in this area was quite strong. It was a very cold breeze, but we didn’t give up on capturing some amazing photos in this beautiful location.
Our first destination was Victoria Park, which served as a perfect warmup for the day. We spent some time walking and sightseeing before visiting the Post Office located just in front of Victoria Park. The building was stunning. We also had the opportunity to walk around the market, although we didn’t end up purchasing anything.
Our next destination was Moon Plains, which wasn’t far from the town. From the entrance, we had to hire a safari jeep. Moon Plains is an agricultural and environmental zone—a lush green valley. As we learned, some areas of the land are used to grow potatoes during certain seasons, after which the land is left untouched for about three years to allow the soil to regain its nutrients.
During the jeep safari, we were mesmerized by the beautiful greenery, which felt like stepping into a different world. The safari brought us to a viewpoint known as the highest 360-degree viewpoint in Sri Lanka, offering a stunning panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. The tour guide explained the mountains and the biodiversity of the area. The one-hour tour cost 3,000 LKR.
Once the tour ended, we began our journey toward Ambewela. We stopped by a restaurant to grab lunch, which was absolutely delicious and came with a variety of curries.
Unfortunately, I couldn't track the name of the restaurant but worth to stop by along the way.
On the way to Ambewela, we made sure to stop by the Kandewela Reservoir, which offered a breathtaking view. We sat by the reservoir for some time, enjoying the cold wind blowing across the water.
The road to Ambewela was incredibly scenic, with vast grasslands and wind turbines visible in the distance. We stopped at a milk stall along the way and enjoyed a warm cup of fresh milk. There were also plenty of vegetable stalls scattered along the route.
We reached Ambewela during milking time, which gave us the opportunity to observe cows being milked, the cheese-making process, and various other farm activities.
Even though we were a little tired, we decided to stop by Jagro Strawberry Farm to enjoy some strawberry desserts since we had extra time. As you know, this is an essential stop for anyone visiting Nuwara Eliya.
We tried three different items: a cheesecake, a dessert with chocolate, strawberries, and whipped cream, and a chocolate cake sandwich with strawberries. I must say, the cheesecake was perfect!
However, the whipped cream dessert was a bit disappointing, as it seemed the whipped cream had been frozen, making it very solid. The sandwich was also very good.
That was plenty of strawberries for one day!
The farm also has a large garden of hydrangeas with impressively big flowers—I was truly amazed!
We also visited a strawberry plantation tunnel, which was quite fascinating.
That marked the last destination of the day, and we reached our accommodation, The Tranquil Villa, by 4:30 PM. Oh my gosh, it was situated with a breathtaking view of Kande Ela. I spent the entire evening sitting on the balcony, taking in the stunning view of Kande Ela and the surrounding forest.
We had dinner at their restaurant and then relaxed, scrolling through social media before heading to bed.
