Wondering whether it's too late, but anyway, today I am going to write about how our very first New Year together went.
Our Avurudu excitement started in mid-March, and we made lots of pre-plans on how to deal with all activities as a separate family. As Harith and I inherited different sets of Avurudu celebration practices from our families, we had to combine them to come up with a better practice.
We did Avurudu shopping in mid-March and purchased new clothes for ourselves as well as for our families.
As the new year week approached, we prepared time slots to clean the house, purchase food items, and make some new year sweets. Unfortunately, we had to attend the funeral of one of our close relatives on the 10th. So, we had to spend the 10th and 11th supporting our family.
On the 12th, we visited my parents' party relations with my parents. We used to visit them before the new year, so we spent a day visiting our relatives.
On the way, we managed to purchase items needed to make food on New Year's Day. Harith's side tradition is making a meal for those who visit the house on New Year's Day. So, other than milk rice, we had to prepare rice and a few curries.
The auspicious times were pretty confusing this time, so we decided to use the alternative auspicious time that occurred on the 14th morning.
On the 13th morning, I made salmonella toffee. Actually, it didn't come out that well because it was too soft, but the taste was really good. After that, I prepared Wambatu Moju for the next day's meal.
After that, we spent the rest of the time watching TV.
The next morning, we prepared milk rice at the auspicious time. And then, we simultaneously cooked the rest of the meals. It was quite a bit of work, but the two of us managed it on time. After dining, we visited nearby relatives.
The day was very busy, and at the end of the day, we realized we were suffering from fever. So, for the next two days, we had to rest in bed.
Even though we faced some challenges during the week, it was a very good first New Year together experience ❤️
