We are all bombarded with stress everyday. We try to cope by working harder, exercising, eating healthier, sleeping more, and making lists to keep ourselves organized.
In reality, however, these techniques may not be enough. There's a reason the most successful people are rarely stressed. They've discovered effective ways to manage stress and thrive.
In this article I outline some techniques that have worked for me. If you're looking for some new methods to combat stress in your life, then I encourage you to try these ideas.
- Get enough sleep
People often underestimate the power of sleep, but I've seen studies that show a strong correlation between good sleep and a strong immune system. That said, sleep is essential to our overall health and well-being. Getting enough sleep helps keep us energized, improves memory, and promotes a healthy metabolism.
- Take control of your mood
If you're feeling stressed, don't let it consume your day. Instead, control your mood by setting yourself up for success. Don't get angry at your children because they won't behave. Focus on the positive. Remember that everything happens for a reason.
- Set boundaries
There's a difference between boundaries and limits. A boundary keeps you safe from someone's actions while a limit is based on a belief that you're never going to change. It's best to set a boundary that feels comfortable to you.
- Listen to music
Music can take your mind off of negative thoughts and turn your focus onto something fun. It also helps to reduce tension in your body.
- Plan for a time of rest
When you plan for a time of rest, you help your mind relax and rejuvenate. Planning ahead for rest can also allow you to give other activities the attention they deserve.
- Keep an organized home
Having a messy house can contribute to high stress levels. Organize your space, declutter, and purge. This will help you keep your home looking and feeling clean.
- Work on your strengths
What are your greatest skills? Do you have any unique strengths? Use these strengths to work toward your goals. Don't ignore them just because you've been focusing on something else.
- Set daily priorities
Many people struggle to make priorities because they want to do everything and nothing ever gets done. Start out with three things each day and slowly work your way up to six. Make sure you work on the things that are important to you.
- Create a schedule
Having a schedule can help us stay focused on what we need to accomplish. It can also help us identify how much time we actually have to get the job done.
- Exercise
Exercise releases endorphins in the brain that makes us happier. Plus, exercise can help clear the mind and increase productivity. Try some cardio and yoga.
- Focus on the good
Instead of letting negative thoughts dominate your mind, find reasons to be grateful for every day. You can learn
Sleep is most important.
