My Thoughts today - We Live as if it's Forever

in life •  2 years ago

Alexander the Great said "Bury my body and don't build any monument. Keep my hands out so the people know the one who won the world had nothing in hand when he died."
It is so true, throughout our lives we keeping chasing to accumulating things and possessions. People fight for power, fame, name. The greed is never ending. We want to build big houses, accumulate property, load our bank accounts and what not.

But we forget that the most important truth of our life is that one day for surely it will cease and when it does, there is nothing that we can take with us, nor the money, nor the property and nor the name and fame also. All we take with us are our deeds and yet we fall for all that we will never take with us.

To think of it Life is so short, just 70 to 80 years or probably 90 to 100 for some and in that time, we make a mess out of it. How will life be if every single person living on this planet only focuses on their deeds that they will take along with them once they die. Surely everyone will become mindful then and focus only on doing good deeds and passing off wealthy from this world to the other side.

Sometimes when I think of how these political people and the richly famous guys keep fighting for power, keep accumulating more and more wealth, building empires, where will it all go with them. At the end of it, they will have to leave it here. For my own life, I set so may goals and keep aiming for higher and higher and sometimes when I am in my quiet space it just kicks into me asking my own-self, why do I need to keep aiming so high all the time. Why cannot I just be where I am right now all the time and be satisfied and contended with. Why do I need bigger things in life.

The other truth of life is that we humans are born with some very strong senses and these senses keep driving us with all the different actions. For a while we may be able to live cut off from these senses but we cannot do it permanently. Some people have managed to do that but that number is very very small and those people are called saints. Definitely we do not live in a saintly world to drive that at large.

Still, we can try to control our senses and not go out too much in greed, understanding where to draw the lines of our limits and being contended at some point to live a more meaningful life. We need to increase our ability to pause and reflect and slow down remembering that this whole game is going to end for sure one day and what's more relevant to win this game. Life is nothing less than a game and we need to play it smartly. There is a finish line where we either win or lose and that depends on how smartly we have played the game.
