Do academically bright students always make the best in life?

Are all successful Individuals all academically bright in their student days?
Well, for me the answer is No. I am not sure why parents pressurize their children so much in getting higher grades and ranks when they are in school. I have seen so many academically bright students fail in life and the reverse that so many students who have never been good with their grades in school have performed very well in the school of life.
Between me and my sister I was the brighter student but today she is doing much better in life where her career is concerned

The older generation still firmly believes that the more then child studies and gets better grades the better he will do in life. Well, I believe that a successful life is about many things. Good marks may help us get a good job but after that what will matter is the hard work and other competencies that will take us ahead. Good grades does not bring smartness, some children are just book worms and that is how they manage to secure good grades. When my Son was small, he was an average student and the first teacher of his life was the most cunning one I can say. She would always shout at him. I was so annoyed with her that I had to get my Son out of that school. I never wanted him to be a part of that rat race. Till his 7th grade he was an academically ok student, but after his 8th class there was a sudden change in him and he started performing much more than my expectations. Today he is called an extraordinary brilliant boy by people around him. I seriously do not know what triggered that change in him. But I always wanted him to grow at his own pace and not push him on any unrealistic expectations.

Grades matter till a certain extent, but beyond a point lot of other things matter, like how much you want success in your life, how much you want to strive in life, what is the level of hard work we want to put in achieving our success. Also the person's personality and character matters. If that is not very good then how much ever bright you have been in your studies, in the test of life you will fail. Our grades in school do not define our life, they are just numbers which help us get a job. Sadly our systems are designed in that manner, where numbers are given more importance then talent. But if the person has talent it does not stay hidden for a longer time, it will come out eventually and success.

I always believe that talent is more successful in life than grades. I have also notices that talented people strive to make their own life on their own terms, where as academically bright students more rely on getting jobs and settling down comfortably with a fixed amount of salary. It is sad that our systems are build in such a way that parents also have no option but to pressurize their children on getting good grades in school, because if they do not secure that then they do not get admissions in good universities. All parents desire that their children scale up in conventional fields. When Children go unconventional ways, parents feel disheartened, but they do not realize that their child will rather excel in that field rather than becoming a book worm and getting high scores which are just numbers on the transcripts.

It is also possible to get "good grades" because either studying is very easy or very interesting. It is a consequence, not an aim. ;-)

Also, some people do much better without the pressure of having to do better.
;-)

True, every child has their own abilities but at the end of the day that is not a marker for how successful one will be in life based on the grades that they acquire in their education.

You may be surprised how many highly gifted kids really, truly don't care about grades.
Life "success" depends on other people, unless it doesn't, coz you create your own measure of success.
;-)
And at that point, the truly free individual becomes potentially dangerous.
