Overcoming Perfectionism: Strategies for Embracing Your Imperfections and Achieving Your Goals

in life •  2 years ago

Perfectionism is both a curse and a blessing. A curse because it forces you to do things that you know you shouldn’t be doing and a blessing because it prevents you from doing things that you know you should be doing.

What if I told you that you weren’t supposed to be doing either of those things? Well, I did and it’s true! When we try to be something that we are not, or try to do something that we are not capable of doing, our performance suffers.

It is important to understand where perfectionism comes from so we can overcome it. Perfectionists are taught to be and feel as though they are inherently imperfect.

Step One: Accept Being Imperfect

In order to achieve the goal of becoming more perfect, it must first be understood that perfection does not exist and we cannot become perfect without first embracing the fact that we are already imperfect.

Perfectionists are taught to view their imperfections as failures, instead of recognizing their flaws and learning from them. This is why they often give up before even trying. It’s easy to be perfect when you never actually make an attempt to be imperfect.

We need to learn how to accept ourselves as we are, rather than strive to be perfect. When we view ourselves as being perfect, we feel the pressure to be and do exactly that. This is because the ego, which is a part of the subconscious mind, needs to protect us from self-doubt and fear. We are not perfect because our minds cannot perceive perfection, it perceives failure.

In order to beat perfectionism, we need to accept that we are already imperfect. This is the first step in overcoming perfectionism and achieving success in our lives.

Step Two: Do What Is Easy

Perfectionists believe that the only way to do anything is to make it hard. They do this because when they do something hard, they will feel as though they failed because it wasn’t perfect.

Unfortunately, this isn’t true. Anything worth doing is worth doing slowly and with focus. Anything worth doing badly is worth doing quickly and with little focus.

When we practice something poorly, we are practicing it and perfecting it. When we practice something well, we are practicing it and perfecting it.

We can do a lot of things perfectly. The real trick to perfectionism is being able to do everything perfectly without forcing it. When we force something, we tend to make mistakes. That’s okay.

The key is to recognize that doing something well is much easier than doing it perfectly, but that doing something poorly is easy too. When we practice something poorly, we are practicing it and perfecting it. Doing something well is harder, but that’s okay too.

If it’s easy, then why do it well? Because doing it well would be boring! If it’s hard, then why do it poorly? Because if we do it
