One of the most powerful things you can do to achieve success in life is to harness your thoughts. This doesn't mean you need to think positively 24/7, it just means you should use positive affirmations whenever possible.
What is self-talk? It's your subconscious chatter. It's all the stuff you think about during the day that you don't even realize is going on. It's the chatter in your head.
Positive self-talk is when you deliberately speak to yourself in a positive way. It's a way to change the dialogue inside your mind.
It's much easier to speak positively to others than to yourself. Even though you don't necessarily agree with what you say to others, you're still able to acknowledge it.
Because of this, you won't get stuck in a negative dialogue with yourself and you can start to actually change your mindset. It's also much easier to ignore criticism from others when you're doing it to yourself.
STEP 1: Know Your Weaknesses
Knowing what you're working on is half the battle. If you want to see success in anything you do, then you need to identify your weaknesses.
It's helpful to get a little honest with yourself. You can use an Excel spreadsheet or something similar to sort out your weaknesses.
Once you've identified the top 5-10 things you're working on, you can start thinking about how you're feeling in each of those areas.
STEP 2: Create a Mindset to Overcome These Limitations
This is a tough one, but you have to take action! Now, you may already have a plan to overcome these weaknesses.
If not, you can do a number of things to create a new mindset. For example, if you haven't been taking tests or studying for college in quite some time, why not start today?
It's important that you act on your weaknesses as soon as possible. It's easy to procrastinate and put off tackling your weaknesses because you don't want to feel bad or afraid of the outcome.
But by the time you're done, you'll be so much stronger! So get started and never give up.
STEP 3: Use Positive Affirmations to Change Your Thoughts
There's no point in trying to talk yourself out of a weakness when you know the truth. If you truly believe that you have a 1230 SAT score, then you shouldn't talk yourself out of it!
Instead, you should begin speaking to yourself in a positive way. Start thinking about yourself in a way you would wish you could be, but you just aren't right now.
If you're not taking tests or going to school because you're scared of the outcomes, then imagine yourself being successful and overcoming this weakness.
Stay positive.
