The average American wastes about 20% of their income on food and housing alone. That doesn't count wasted time, wasted water, wasted fuel, wasted electricity, wasted paper, and more.
It's clear that our current lifestyle is unsustainable. It's also clear that you can easily reduce your environmental impact by making these simple changes:
Cut out all food from plastic containers
Use reusable shopping bags and utensils
Buy local produce. Eat at home as much as possible. Take public transportation. Turn off lights and computers. Use rechargeable batteries and solar panels. Get a carbon offset to help offset your emissions. Don't buy anything if you don't need it. Do you really need a new computer or TV?
Think about it for a second. Would you throw away a perfectly good computer just because it has a cracked screen? What about throwing away a perfectly good tv just because it is an older model?
If you answered yes to both of these questions, there's a good chance that you're wasting more than half of your income. We don't need more stuff; we need better stuff.
