It's impossible to grow from within. Growth comes from outside of us. The best thing you can do for yourself is build a strong support system. There are many ways to go about building this type of network.
One of the most powerful tools we have to develop relationships are our conversations. It's how we build trust. How we share ideas and learn from each other. But there's an additional layer of growth you can gain by leveraging social networks and other online platforms.
STEP 1: Use Social Networks to Grow Your Network and Increase Conversations
Social media is used almost universally today. You can find all of these things in any search engine or through your favorite social network. Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Google+, StumbleUpon, Pinterest, and even Reddit.
Use them to create your own mini support network. Find the people that interest you the most and make sure you follow them back.
STEP 2: Go Beyond Social Media
Another way to create a network is by finding events you're interested in attending and joining them. Most conferences, meetups, and workshops offer networking opportunities. This is where you can connect with other attendees, share ideas and solutions, and find new connections.
It's important to remember that everyone isn't going to fit your exact interests. There are plenty of ways to join existing groups and events, but you need to be creative about it.
STEP 3: Look for New Opportunities
One of the biggest challenges in life is trying to figure out what your passion is. Everyone has different aspirations. The problem is that many times, we limit ourselves to things that are "safe."
We often focus on what we know and what we can do. We don't try new things and expand our horizons. Yet, that's where our real passions lie.
One way to look for new opportunities is to identify areas where your talents can shine. If you love writing, what other ways can you communicate? What other ways can you share your ideas?
If you're talented in a field that's new to you, use the resources you've been given to find out more. Take advantage of all the information available. Try reading books. Join groups on social media. Talk to friends. Listen to podcasts.
Whatever area you want to explore, do it! Don't let the limitations of the past hold you back.
STEP 4: Be Consistent
The most consistent way to build a network is by being available to others. You might think that's a bit selfish, but it's not. In fact, it can be the most generous thing you can do.
There's nothing you can do for someone that they couldn't do for themselves. By helping them develop their ideas and strengthen their weaknesses, you are doing them a tremendous favor. The only way to ensure your success is to be a part of a growing network.
STEP 5: Take Time To Grow
Sometimes, it can be hard to take the leap and start developing relationships. Maybe you've never
