17 , August, 1945 was the Indonesian independence day. The celebration usually starts from the first month of August every year. Every region celebrates the day. There are many events like carnival and art show.

In my region, the celebration is held by having carnival. All people are very enthusiastic. They dress uniquely. The dress represents the history and the diversity of Indonesia. There are hundreds of ethnics that live in Indonesia but they are united in one nation under the motto “Bhineka Tunggal Ika”. It means unity in diversity.

In the carnival, there are some teenagers wearing bloody clothes and bring some crops. On the side of the bloody people, there is a soldier. He dresses like a Japanese soldier. It represents the history of Japan occupation in Indonesia.

Another group dresses in traditional clothes from Papua. Papua is an of islands in Indonesia. They also perform dance while walking. All participants enjoy the carnival.

The carnival is divided into groups. Each group should perform a theme. One of the theme is prosperity. A car is loading some crops shaped like a mountain. The crops consist of vegetables and fruits. This represents the fertile islands of Indonesia. People can harvest their own crops from their lands.

All groups will be scored by a committee. The best group will earn prizes. The carnival walk around the environment. They should walk about 3 km. It is quiet long rute because the day is very hot. However, all people are very enthusiastic.

People forget about political split during the general election. Now they are united in the happiness of the independence. The event unite differences among the people. It is why celebration of Independence day always attracts a lot of participants.
