Indonesia celebrates Independence day every 17 of August. The Independence day is very important for Indonesian people. All people will celebrate the day because they are very happy. On 17, August, 1945 Indonesia proclaimed their independence from colonization.

VOC , Netherland, British, and Portugal colonized the teritory of Nusantara, now Indonesia for hundred of years. Then, Japan came and gave a hope but in fact , Japanese occupied Indonesia as the colonization area after they defeated Dutch.

Japanese colonial needed help from Indonesian people to fight the Dutch army. Therefore, they gave military training for young Indonesian.

The trained Indonesian armies by Japanese and KNIL formed by the Dutch as the forerunner of Indonesian military.

The news of Japan's defeat reached the leaders of the movement in Indonesia. The elderly represented by Soekarno said they were waiting for the granting of independence from the Japanese government. But the youth group urged Soekarno to proclaim independence immediately before the Dutch came again.

Finally Soekarno at the insistence of the youth proclaimed independence on August 17, 1945.

In order to defend independence, Indonesian youth and troops trained by Japan became the people's army. They blocked the allied forces under British leadership on November 10, 1945 in Surabaya which caused thousands of lives to be lost.

There were dozens of wars in various provinces in Indonesia, either against Japan, the Netherlands or England. And finally Indonesia's independence was recognized by the UN.

Therefore, all people in Indonesia are very excited to celebrate Independence day. There are a lot of music and art performance. Before the final celebration, there are some games and competitions for young kids.
